Sochi covered with rain. The Matsesta River overflowed its banks in the Khostinsky district, flooded some adjoining territories and basements. Fortunately, there are no casualties among local residents and tourists, but vacationers admit: “The vacation is completely ruined.”

On the morning of June 14, residents of Sochi were awakened by the sound of a siren – local authorities signaled that the Matsesta River had overflowed its banks and was flooding the streets. The water level in the Khostinsky district has reached critical levels: the roads have turned into rivers, cars have flooded and carried towards the sea.

The element damaged the gas pipeline network, local media reported. A mobile operational headquarters has been formed in the city, services are clearing roads and pedestrian routes from rubble. The mayor of the city Alexei Kopaygorodsky ordered to close the beaches until good weather returns. Bathing is prohibited.

“We are still expecting rainfall, all our forces and means are ready for any development of events in order to help the population and quickly restore the normal operation of the infrastructure,” his Telegram channel says.

184 people and 42 pieces of equipment are involved in the elimination of the consequences of bad weather. Now the water level in the Matsesta River has already decreased.

Tourists who have planned a vacation in Sochi are swearing at the weather. “I only came here for a week. I was really looking forward to this trip, I have not been on vacation for more than a year. Barely took time off from work, and so unlucky with the weather. Of course, we are very upset,” Ekaterina, a doctor from Perm, who is now in Sochi with her two children, admits to MK.

Now the rain has stopped pouring. However, according to weather forecasts, tomorrow the region will again be covered with a downpour.

Local resident Daria told MK that now the sun is shining in the city, and the sea, although less calm than usual, is quite possible to swim. At least, according to her, she saw vacationers on the beach in the eastern part of the city.

“Every year we have the same thing. The city is absolutely not ready for heavy rains, ”says the MK interlocutor.

“There was heavy rain at night, but in Sochi everything is very local. In the mountains, everything was fine with us, the water immediately flows down, but in some areas below, judging by the photographs, of course, it was creepy, ”Dmitry, who lives in Krasnaya Polyana, tells MK. We usually don’t have anything. And in Matsesta, Kudepsta, Khost – all coastal areas are flooded, and if it has been heavily shed in the mountains, then their water may not have time to unload into the sea.

According to him, he never heard a siren in the city, but the authorities sent SMS warnings of heavy rain and hail: “The last SMS came at 7:30 in the morning, when it was all over. And the heavy rain started around 11 pm.”
