Hockey players from Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo continue to compete in the playoffs of the Gagarin Cup. The team from Nizhny Novgorod showed different results during the 2023-2024 season and changed its tournament position. If at the start of the regular season the Nizhny Novgorod team were considered the leaders of the Western Conference, then after the New Year holidays, Igor Larionov’s charges “crumbled” and began to lose much more often. Based on the results of 68 matches played, the Avtozavodtsy scored 75 points and took 7th place in the Western Conference, having received SKA St. Petersburg as opponents in the first round.
The fourth match of the series took place in Nizhny Novgorod and was different from the previous ones, especially from those that took place in St. Petersburg. From the first minutes, the red and blue took possession of the puck and by the middle of the opening period they were leading with a score of 3:0, creating a big advantage for themselves. By the end of the first period, the Avtozavodtsy had won one goal back, but Igor Larionov’s charges were not enough to do more. In the remaining 40 minutes, fans saw only one puck scored by SKA hockey players. The final siren sealed SKA’s victory with a score of 4:1.
Thus, as early as March 9, the series between Torpedo and SKA may come to an end. The start of the fifth match of the series is scheduled for 17:00 Moscow time.
