Hockey players of the Nizhny Novgorod “Chaika” finished playing in the regular championship of the MHL season 2023-2024. The team from Nizhny Novgorod is the current holder of the Kharlamov Cup and showed an excellent result, finishing the regular season in 4th position in the Golden Division of the Eastern Conference. Over 50 matches of the regular season, “Chaika” was able to score 66 points, which allowed it to take 4th place in the “Gold”, losing only to rivals representing Omsk, Chelyabinsk and Khanty-Mansiysk. In the first round, the Nizhny Novgorod team met with Irbis and did not finish the first match in the best way.
In the first period, the teams did not score, but in the middle of the second period, Chaika took the lead. After the goal was scored, the game calmed down, Irbis attacked more sharply, but up to a certain point the Nizhny Novgorod defense managed to cope. Only in the third period did Irbis come to life and turn the tide of the match. The guests scored three goals in a row and knocked out Chaika, which began the playoffs with a defeat from an opponent who finished the regular season in a lower place. The final siren recorded the victory of the Kazan Irbis with a score of 3:1.
On March 8, the second match of the playoff series between Chaika and Irbis will take place. The meeting is scheduled to start at 17:00 Moscow time.
