2023 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Rachmaninov. The greatest composer of the 20th century, a brilliant pianist, an outstanding conductor – “Divinity in three persons” – this is how one of the critics called Rachmaninoff. Especially for this event, on April 13 at the House of Music, the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra will present its project “Masterpieces of Sergei Rachmaninoff”.
Concertos for piano and orchestra – this is the favorite genre that Rachmaninoff turned to all his life. The Second and Third Piano Concertos brought the author deserved success and were rightfully recognized as the best Russian piano concertos after Tchaikovsky’s First Concerto. The well-known music critic Asafiev believed that it was from the Third Concerto that the final formation of the “titanic style of Rachmaninov’s pianoforte” took place.
One of the brightest young pianists of the 21st century, soloist of the Moscow State Academic Philharmonic Philip Kopachevsky is a laureate of eight prestigious international competitions, including the Tenth Schubert International Piano Competition (Germany), the Enschede International Piano Competition (Netherlands), winner of a special prize of the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition. His concerts are regularly held in Europe, USA, Brazil, Argentina, China, and in many cities of Russia. Performs with all leading Russian orchestras. By order of the Japanese television company NHK, Kopachevsky recorded a disc with Chopin’s works. In cooperation with the Dutch record labels Piano Classics and Brilliant Classics, two CDs with works by composers of the Romantic era have been released, and in the 2017/2018 season, two CDs with works by Brahms have been released.
Sergei Tatarin will be the conductor of the Russian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.
