Parents of teens can be pleased: TikTok, a popular short video creation and viewing service for young people, will introduce limits on the time of viewing content for users under the age of 18 in the coming weeks.
TikTok announced the launch of features that will help teens and their parents control the time spent watching videos. It is reported that every account owned by a user under the age of 18 will soon be automatically set to a 60-minute daily screen time limit. It is clarified that for users under the age of 13 who use the “children’s” version of TikTok, the limit will be 30 minutes. After this time, in order to continue using the service, you will need to enter a special password. Moreover, for children under 13, parents and guardians will have to do this.
Users will also receive weekly notifications of time spent on TikTok for 7 days.
According to the message, this is done so that teens and their parents make an informed decision to continue their session on TikTok. Also, according to the developers, it will help parents control the time that their child spends online.
In addition, the service has a setting with which you can set the time to turn off push notifications. It is clarified that by default, push notifications for 13-15-year-old users cease to arrive from 9 pm, for 16-17-year-old users – from 10 pm. But now this time can be changed depending on the daily routine of the family, and also, for example, taking into account holidays and weekends.
