TikTok is going to launch a competitor to Instagram* – Kommersant

The short video service TikTok plans to release a photo sharing application that is similar in functionality to Instagram (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and is banned). The company has already sent out some users are notified about the launch of a new product called TikTok Notes.

Using the new application, users will be able to make text posts along with photos. The company confirmed that it is indeed considering options for allowing community members to create and share content in the form of photos and text.

It is likely that photos that users have previously posted on TikTok will migrate to the application, so that the new product will immediately have a base of content and users. It is currently unknown when the app is planned to be made available to the general public. The media have been reporting on TikTok’s development of a new application since March 2024, when references to TikTok Photos were found in the application code.
