The mission of the Luna 24 space station, which fell onto the surface of the Earth’s satellite, cannot be called a failure, but, on the contrary, can be considered an excellent experience. This statement was made by Vladislav Yakovlev, an engineer at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, speaking at the conference of young scientists “Fundamental and Applied Space Research”.
According to him, scientists take into account the information obtained during the mission when working on future projects.
“We survived, we are working on further projects, there is a lot of work. We accept the experience gained with the previous mission,” Yakovlev said.
Let us recall that the launch of the Luna-25 space station to the natural satellite of the Earth took place in August 2023. A few days after the launch, due to improper engine operation, the device crashed on the surface of the Moon.
Afterwards it was announced that a repetition of the mission could occur in 2025-2026.
At the end of 2023, the scientific director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the scientific director of the first stage of the lunar program, academician Lev Zeleny spoke about the Luna-27 mission. According to him, for It is more profitable to create two devices at once.
