President of the Armenian Gymnastics Federation Gagik Vanoyan announced on social networks the death of the famous Soviet gymnast, three-time Olympic champion and four-time world champion Albert Azaryan at the age of 94.
Vanoyan noted that it was a blessing for him to be a contemporary of Azaryan.
At one time, Azaryan was considered the strongest gymnast in exercises on the rings. And the “cross” exercise that the athlete performed was called the “Azarian Cross”. According to the biography of the gymnast in 1962, director Yuri Yerzinkyan made a feature film “Rings of Glory”. Albert Azarian played the main role in this film.
