Spain coach Wilda sacked amid kiss scandal

According to the Spanish edition El Mundo, the dismissal of the coach was discussed on August 28 at a meeting of the presidents of the federations in Las Rozas. The reason for this discussion was the applause of Jorge Wild in support of Luis Rubiales during his speech at the RFEF General Assembly. In the course of his speech, Rubiales refused to resign as president of the federation.

42-year-old Jorge Vilda coached the Spanish national team for eight years. Under his leadership, the team won the Cyprus Cup in 2018, and in 2019 for the first time reached the play-offs of the FIFA World Cup.

On August 20, the Spanish national team defeated the English team with a score of 1: 0 in the final of the women’s football championship. During the award ceremony, Luis Rubiales kissed the captain of the team, 33-year-old football player Jennifer Hermoso, on the lips. After that, the player said that she did not like the actions of Luis Rubiales.

Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Diaz described the actions of Mr. Rubiales as harassment.
