Threads is ahead of social network X in terms of downloads in the AppStore and Google Play – Kommersant

The microblogging service Threads (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) surpassed the competing social network X in downloads from the AppStore and Google Play for September-November 2023. About it reports Techcrunch citing Apptopia research data.

Since September, Threads has been downloaded 41 million times, while social media app X has been downloaded 21 million times. Techcrunch associates this with the new Meta advertising campaign. Threads was most popular in India, which accounted for 9.2 million downloads (11.2% of all application downloads). If in September Threads had about 1 million downloads per day, then this figure gradually decreased and by the beginning of November reached 350 thousand per day, but by November 23 the number of downloads increased to 620 thousand per day.

Social network X was most popular in Indonesia, and analysts attribute the slowdown in growth to rebranding. Interestingly, there was a 350% increase in downloads of Twitter Lite, a lightweight version of the application for emerging markets that has not yet been renamed. In total, Twitter now has over 500 million active daily users, and Threads has about 141 million.
