Local airline cancels flights due to Qatar restrictions
Morocco’s national airline said it was canceling all flights scheduled for Dec. 14 to transport fans to the Qatari capital Doha for the World Cup semi-final match, citing a decision by the Qatari authorities.
“Following the latest restrictions imposed by the Qatari authorities, Royal Air Maroc regrets to inform customers of the cancellation of their flights operated by Qatar Airways,” the airline said in an emailed message to air passengers.
The Qatari government’s international media office has yet to comment on the decision, Reuters reported.
Royal Air Morocco (RAM) had previously said it had scheduled 30 additional flights to help fans reach Qatar for the semi-final match against France on the evening of December 14, but on Tuesday, December 13, a source at the RAM travel agency said the schedule there are only 14 flights left.
The cancellation of seven scheduled flights on Wednesday 14 December means that RAM was only able to make seven flights on Tuesday, leaving fans who had already booked tickets for the match unable to travel to Qatar.
RAM said it would refund airfare and apologized to customers.
The representative of Qatar Airways has not yet commented on what is happening.
