Things to do with kids in autumn: picnic, crafts, horror night

Each autumn has its own character, but you can always choose from a variety of unique activities that will delight both you and your child.

Play hide and seek in the park

It doesn’t matter what others say about it. Hide and Seek is a serious strategy game, and not just for kids! Don’t believe? Then try to sneak away from the children or hide from the dog! Plan your strategy ahead of time and find the biggest pile of leaves and the biggest tree to practice your stealth skill.

Have a horror movie night

Get together with older children and arrange horror movies, and you can start right with “Viya”, and the Internet will tell you how to finish. If you are not a fan of horror films, you can replace them with a marathon from Soviet comedies. Don’t forget to replenish your coffee supplies in advance and warn your boss that you will be a little late for work – the evening can be long!

Create autumn cards

Hurry up to have time to enjoy this wonderful view of autumn creativity with your children before the cold winds blow. Making autumn cards is very simple: while in a park or square, collect a bouquet of large autumn leaves. Color each sheet with markers or gouache and make colored prints with the colored side on a sheet of paper. Add a freehand greeting or wish in sweeping handwriting. Your unique autumn card is ready!

Visit a cozy cafe

When the sun shines less and less, and the autumn day now and then threatens with heavy rain, it’s time to relax with the children in a small cozy cafe. Finding your own cute cafe, where you can sit with pleasure both with the kids and with the older guys, is quite simple, you just need to make an appropriate request on the Internet. It is possible that it is two steps away, you just did not know about it. But don’t choose flashy places, go where there are sweet desserts, a play area, a romantic view from the window and an inexpensive cappuccino (or what do you prefer from coffee?)

Build your lair

This kind of entertainment will amuse both children and their parents. It requires not only great enthusiasm, but also good preparation, as well as the presence of a forested area outside the city or directly at your place of residence. Finding a natural canopy will take a little time – you just need to find a spreading tree whose branches grow close enough to the ground. Then collect more fallen branches, sticks and leaves to create the walls of your “den”. Inside, you can put a small mattress and sit with your child, imagining that this is a fairy-tale forest and reading some fairy tale.

Feed the animals and birds

This is not only fun, but also a noble activity, because you will help the little creatures get enough and show the children a great example of caring for our smaller brothers. It is very simple to do this: just go for a walk in the park, after stocking up on appropriate food and treats that are safe for animals and birds to eat. It is better to look for them in a remote part of the park, where there are few people. Even if you are not lucky enough to meet a squirrel or a hedgehog, you can definitely treat sparrows and pigeons, and maybe even local cats.

Take a walk in the rain

On a rainy day, go for a short walk with tea in thermal mugs and light snacks: wander around the city center, photograph the most beautiful trees in a deserted park, watch the sky change, stop to notice how the rain forms tiny beads on yellow leaves. And show it to the kids! And then go home, boil tea, wrap yourself in blankets and watch TV or your favorite movies on your tablet!

Have an autumn photoshoot

A photo shoot against the backdrop of autumn landscapes is one of the best family events for children and their parents. Let your imagination run wild: experiment with clothes, furniture, ideas, filters. Then print new photos and place them in frames. And decorate the photo frames themselves with the children with cones, acorns, twigs, cinnamon and other cute little things. It will be not only very fun, but also beautiful!

Take part in a craft competition

Autumn not only features beautiful scenery and bountiful harvests, it also provides many fun twigs, driftwood, and other eco-friendly materials for kids to craft. So do not miss the chance to take part in the autumn themed competition in kindergarten or school! Well, if none are foreseen, then collect twigs, leaves and cones, add a box of plasticine, a wooden base, a little imagination and spend a fun home labor lesson.

Go to the forest for mushrooms

Even if you have never done this, go with your children to the forest for mushrooms. Often such a walk can be carried out in a forested area, not particularly moving away from housing. Make sure the children have baskets and closed shoes with them. You will discover many secrets of the forest and natural phenomena, and if you are lucky, you will be able to bring home a basket of mushrooms. But frying or stewing them, if you are not an avid mushroom picker, is not worth it – just collect the mushrooms on a wire and decorate the kitchen with them. It will look great in winter!

Have an autumn picnic

The special peaceful atmosphere of autumn is ideal for events such as picnics, barbecues or just friendly gatherings around the fire. Be sure to enjoy these autumn activities with your children, friends and loved ones. Even if you don’t fry anything, but just get out into nature on a fine day, you will have a great time on the banks of a river, a local lake, or just on a country lawn.

Collect a demi-season herbarium

Collect autumn leaves with the children, dry them and carefully place them on a bookshelf in a vase – this is how you will have a composition of the summer-autumn fauna. This is a great way to have fun and a little sadness, seeing off the outgoing and meeting the coming season, as well as an opportunity for the whole family to get together to create bright red bouquets that will become the color accents of your home for a long time.

Reread your favorite books

Returning to your favorite books is one of the main things to do in the fall. Cloudy autumn weather encourages the resumption of such a useful activity as reading, especially since many books can be read aloud with children or listened to in audio versions. Have a list of books you want to read in advance and try to read as many of them as you can on quiet, cozy evenings.

Stock up on flavored tea

Be sure to try to collect your unique stock of tea for the entire autumn-winter period. To do this, go shopping with your children and choose several varieties of this aromatic drink (with rose petals, cinnamon, juniper, ginger, cherry, etc.) to enjoy the tart summer aromas until the onset of spring.

Opinion

Irina Bukina. school psychologist:

– Autumn for many children and their parents is often closely associated not only with pleasant and exciting moments, but also with the transition of a child from the status of a preschooler to the status of a schoolchild; from elementary school student to high school student. In all cases, the majority of parents are gripped by psychological and social problems. It is also not easy for children, which is why they are often tense both physically and psychologically.

In order to go through this path with minimal costs for the health of children and for the nervous system of parents, joint family activities, walks and creativity should be used. This makes family relationships more trusting and warm, which means it will be easier for children to share their problems with their parents and jointly look for ways to solve them.
