“Neither the Diva nor the artist’s brother will come”

A year ago, on September 27, Boris Moiseev passed away. After this, the artist’s director Sergei Gorokh had to fight with haters and attacks about the inheritance, etc. He also heard unflattering comments from the brother of the deceased artist. Despite the pressure, Sergei Gorokh did not forget about the promise he made to himself: to erect a monument to Boris Moiseev. Tomorrow, September 27, a grand opening will take place at the Troekurovsky cemetery. Gorokh told Moskovsky Komsomolets about this.

— Tomorrow we will solemnly open the monument to Boris Mikhailovich – it will be a full-length sculpture. Everything is thought out, everything is in Bori’s style. It will be a very beautiful ceremony. When what happened happened, I began to think about perpetuating the name of Boris Mikhailovich. And the idea immediately came to my mind to take a fragment of his dance number “The Pain of Separation”. This was his favorite number. The sculpture will be made of bronze. Sculptor Philip Trushin. We started working with him when we were installing a memorial plaque on Moiseev’s house. He does a lot for the Vakhtangov Theater and made a monument for Shainsky.

— Did you consult with anyone about how and what to do?

— I consulted with Alla Borisovna Pugacheva. I offered her my ideas, and she even offered financial assistance. But I refused her, because it was more important for me to receive some valuable advice, since until the end of my life she was in touch with Boris and always helped him. But I took on all the expenses, because this is the memory of a friend, mentor, teacher. I have been offered help in this matter, but I believe that it is my duty and I must do it myself.

— Did you talk to Pugacheva on the phone?

– No, we met in Jurmala in July, discussed the details, she agreed with me in many respects and gave some practical advice.

— She didn’t hint whether she wanted to come and look at the monument?

– No, we didn’t talk about this with her.

— What about Boris Moiseev’s relatives? Did you contact anyone when you decided to install the sculpture?

“I wrote a letter to his brother, who did not speak very well of me. Nevertheless, I invited him to the opening of the monument and said that I could even take care of some visa issues, he lives in Canada, and that I was ready to receive him in Moscow. But I never received an answer from him. He didn’t even react when we opened the memorial plaque – a bas-relief on the house where Boris was born and grew up.

— Fans of Yura Shatunov organized entire pilgrimage tours to his grave. What kind of fans does Boris Moiseev have now?

— He doesn’t have any inadequate fans. There are always flowers and toys on his grave. And now, when the foundation for the monument has been erected, there are always fresh flowers on it.
