On April 12, Russia celebrates Cosmonautics Day. A day earlier, the Angara-A5 heavy launch vehicle launched from the Vostochny Cosmodrome. At the same time, Moscow announces ambitious plans to conquer the Moon and even the planets of the solar system. Kommersant FM political commentator Dmitry Drize believes that this holiday fully deserves state status.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko arrived in Moscow. Together with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, they will, in particular, meet with astronauts and sum up the results of joint activities in the space industry. The Russian capital, for its part, has prepared a range of entertaining and educational events for ordinary citizens to choose from.
The day before, a new heavy launch vehicle Angara-A5 launched from Earth for the third time. The small spacecraft “Gagarinets” was launched into low Earth orbit, and, in fact, that’s all. However, everyone in our country, and beyond, knows that on this day back in 1961, for the first time in world history, a person – Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin – managed to overcome gravity and saw hitherto unprecedented outer space.
And in this regard, I would like to ask a very interesting question. More than 60 years ago, a great breakthrough was made in domestic engineering and other ideas, and, yes, we can safely say that they really overtook America then, and, moreover, in a peaceful competition. Without wars, loss of life and other tragedies. But with all this, Cosmonautics Day is not only not a day off, but it does not even have the status of a public holiday.
For comparison: May 1, Spring and Labor Day, we walk for four days this year; November 4, National Unity Day, is the most mysterious holiday in the Russian Federation, but it is a day off. But Cosmonautics Day is not. There is a version that he fell into disgrace due to the name of Khrushchev. In front of him, Gagarin “said: “Let’s go” and waved his hand.” However, Nikita Sergeevich was soon removed from all posts and has since been considered the most unconstructive of the Soviet leaders. And the astronaut himself died tragically after all this. He was very popular, all over the world, and it was said that he overshadowed the Central Committee of the Party and the Soviet leadership as a whole. However, enough of the conspiracy theories and various historical research.
Cosmonautics Day has every reason to claim the right to become a public holiday, first of all, because it is an example of true cohesion and national unity.
It’s not like identifying enemies, different agents and hating them all together, but instead, extending a hand to our extraterrestrial brothers, maybe they are suffering somewhere in a distant galaxy. And at the same time you can study the stars, and various unknown phenomena, “Moscow-Cassiopeia”, “Space as a premonition”… How good it could be! Why not a national idea? It’s not a sin to drink for this. After all, a holiday is not a reason to dig potatoes and drink vodka; there should be moral and ideological content. And when it’s gone, all that’s left is a hangover and inner devastation.
