Kommersant FM political commentator Dmitry Drize believes that exploring the country’s attractions using banknotes is not the best idea.

The Central Bank introduced two new banknotes with a face value of 1 thousand rubles. and 5 thousand rubles. We will not describe them in detail, because anyone who wanted to has probably already become familiar with them.

It’s not really about money, but still. In short, it wasn’t exactly a scandal that arose around the changed banknotes, but there was a reason for more barbs against officials, let’s call it that.

The attentive public noticed that the new thousand-ruble bill depicts, in particular, a minaret with a crescent, but the dome of the Orthodox church was without a cross. They even saw a certain political context in this.

There is such a tendency in modern society to largely see a conspiracy or its semblance, they say, there is a reason for all this. The official representative of the Russian Orthodox Church, Vakhtang Kipshidze, hastened to reassure that the banknote depicts not a temple, but a museum, and this is also the case in life, so there is no intent.

And here we have to remind you that with money we really don’t have everything straight. For example, on the new 2 thousand ruble bill. Sakhalin mysteriously grew to the mainland and became a peninsula.

Or here is a memorable story with Apollo on a hundred-ruble note: the ancient Greek god of the sun, unfortunately, is practically not burdened with clothes. The vigilant deputy Roman Khudyakov drew attention to this, asking the question: what will the children think when they look at this? Is there a hint of pornography here?

In general, it seems that studying the Russian expanses through money, on the one hand, may be the right decision, but, on the other hand, it requires a lot. It is necessary to at least avoid obvious mistakes and contradictions so that no one’s feelings are hurt.

This is firstly, and secondly, it is physically impossible to depict all the regions of the Russian Federation, so many, again, can make certain claims.

Meanwhile, this is not the main thing. What is the main problem? As you know, in most countries of the world, leaders, kings, presidents and other fathers of the nation are depicted on money. We also had tsars on our banknotes and coins, then V.I. Lenin, and now here are the Russian expanses. Well, excuse me, we don’t have such heroes to depict on banknotes? Of course have.

But when it comes to personalities, it immediately turns out that everything is not completely clear. There is no such figure that not a single spiteful critic would try to spoil the mass with his cynical remarks. And this is not a very good signal from the point of view of getting up from your knees and returning to traditional values.

And there’s also a problem with symbols—it’s not like drawing a worker or a collective farmer. However, we have heroes: Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin, Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev, Alexander Stepanovich Popov, our everything Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov, Fyodor Ivanovich Chaliapin. So we are making a rationalization proposal, so to speak, for the future.
