The animals are reported to be doing well. The first settlers safely left the place of release and are now studying each other’s tracks, developing new habitats – all under the close supervision of scientists.
Two males and one female are the first leopards in the area in 50 years. The leopards were fitted with satellite collars prior to release. They do not cause inconvenience to animals, but allows scientists from the Institute of Ecology and Evolution named after. A.N. Severtsov RAS track them.
Female Leo 284F went to the east, then explored the entire southern part of the reserve. Shows healthy activity and moves around often, inspecting his new home, covering an average of about 8 km per day. Male Leo 270M explored the center of the reserve and then returned; He walks about 5 km a day. The maximum distance at which the male and female departed from each other is 21 km, but now they are approaching. Leo 260M is close to the release site and is actively exploring the area. The smells left by its two relatives help to better navigate the new space.
