The wife of former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, Seo Yong Kim-Schroeder, was fired from her job after she and her husband attended a reception at the Russian embassy in Berlin on May 9 on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War, transmits Bild.

It is specified that she used to work at NRW.Global Business, where she held the position of representative in South Korea. According to the representative of the Ministry of Economy of North Rhine-Westphalia, Mona Neubaur, Schroeder-Kim knew that company representatives should not speak publicly on any politically sensitive topics.

Schroeder is in the field of view of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Poland. The department stated that will check former Chancellor of Germany for involvement in the Ukrainian conflict and a special operation as part of an investigation into events in Ukraine. The documents said that Schroeder, working in Russian energy companies, could “use his positions <...> for subsequent pressure on the EU countries and Ukraine.”

Schroeder was Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1998–2005. In March 2022, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on Schroeder to resign from all positions in Russian state-owned companies. In the spring, the ex-chancellor resigned from the board of directors of Rosneft, which he had headed since 2017, and refused an offer to join the board of directors of Gazprom.
