Ilta-Sanomat: Finns compared the fence on the Russian border with a garden fence

In an article published by columnist Ilta-Sanomat, it is noted that the fence that the Finnish authorities are building on the border with Russia looks more like a garden fence. A photo of a test section of the border fence posted by Finnish border guards on May 12 caused confusion among Twitter users, who described it as a “kindergarten fence” or “garden fence.”
Recall that the Finnish Border Guard plans to stretch this fence for 200 kilometers along the border with Russia. This will take the Finnish authorities 3-4 years and about 380 million euros.
Professor Jussi Laine expressed his opinion about the test section of the fence, calling it a “joke”. He said the fence being built did not match the images and drawings of the original design released by the border guards in the fall. He noted that the test site is more like a playground fence, but this does not surprise him.
The expert called this construction a useless waste of taxpayers’ money. According to the professor, the main part of the expenses is related to the construction of roads and other works in the vicinity of the fence. It also remains unclear how feasible it is to build a fence on the border with Russia at all, he concluded.
