The Kremlin assessed the prospects for extending the grain deal

The Kremlin promised to inform journalists when a decision is made on the future of the grain deal, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation.
“When an appropriate decision is made, we will inform you. So far, this is the only thing I can say,” the spokesman said. He added that contacts under the agreement are ongoing and called them “concentrated.”
“There are still a lot of open questions regarding our side of the deal. Now we have to make a decision,” Peskov concluded.
On May 11, the Turkish Defense Ministry reported that negotiations between Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN would continued at the technical level in the near future.
The grain deal was concluded on July 22, 2022 by representatives of Turkey and the UN on the one hand, and representatives of Russia and Ukraine on the other. Separate agreements were signed with Moscow and Kiev: the first was for the export of Ukrainian grain from three ports, including Odessa, Yuzhny and Chernomorsk, and the second was for assistance in the export of Russian grain and fertilizers. Moscow has repeatedly noted that the second part of the deal is not being implemented.
Last deal extended March 14 for 60 days. The Russian side emphasized that the decision on the further implementation of the agreement would depend on compliance with the terms of the second part.
April 14 Russian Foreign Ministry put forward five conditions for the extension of the grain deal, including the connection of the Russian Agricultural Bank to the SWIFT settlement system, the resumption of supplies to Russia of agricultural machinery, spare parts and services that fell under Western sanctions, as well as the abolition of restrictions on insurance and reinsurance of Russian ships with grain and the lifting of the ban on their access to ports.
