The White House denied the change in US position on Ukraine

The US position on the Ukrainian conflict has not changed: Washington still believes that negotiations on a settlement with Moscow can only begin at the initiative of Kyiv, said John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the White House National Security Council.
This is how he commented on yesterday’s statement by US President Joe Biden, who spoke of his readiness to start negotiations to resolve the situation in Ukraine with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The President was very consistent, he always says what he has in mind, and this has not changed. You heard him, he said everything clearly yesterday, he has no intention of talking to Putin right now,” said Kirby (quote according to Reuters).
According to him, Washington does not believe that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is currently ready for such negotiations.
Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier today that Russia is open to talks with the United States on Ukraine, but the possibility of holding them is complicated by the fact that Washington still does not recognize new territories as part of Russia. He also stressed that Biden’s statement included several proposals, including the need to “leave Ukraine.”
Peskov previously again called it impossible to conduct negotiations with Kyiv because of their denial by the Ukrainian side. In particular, the refusal of Ukraine at the legislative level to negotiate with Russia hinders the dialogue. He added that in order to resume dialogue, Ukraine must not only repeal the law refusing to negotiate with Moscow, but also show political will.
