The new variant of coronavirus “Pirola” turned out to be more contagious than “Omicron”. About how dangerous this strain is in a conversation with radio “Komsomolskaya Pravda” said virologist, professor at the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology Anatoly Altstein.
The doctor emphasized that Pyrrole is a variant of Omicron. But this strain is quite contagious in the sense that “it has spread to a number of countries, which means it can spread to other countries and spread throughout the world.” However, there is no reason to believe that this variant is more contagious than the b1 and b2 strains, which have infected hundreds of millions of people around the planet.
“With these new strains, we don’t see much of an uptick in cases,” Altstein said. — In some countries there is an increase, but it is not so significant. Therefore, all these menacing statements have no serious basis.” According to the virologist, a repeat of the situation of previous years should not be expected, because the new variant of coronavirus infection is most likely no more contagious than its predecessors. It should also be taken into account that the population has already developed collective immunity.
Previously “MK” reportedthat the incidence of coronavirus has sharply increased in Russia. As reported by the federal operational headquarters to combat this infection, over the past week the incidence of Covid in Russia has increased by 48%. At the same time, the number of hospitalizations increased by 20.6%.
