The US Department of Justice asked the court of Boston (Massachusetts) to sentence the Russian Vladislav Klyushin, who was found guilty of cyber fraud, to 14 years in prison. About it informed TASS with reference to court documents.
In addition, the state prosecution demanded that Klyushin be fined $5 million and ordered to pay damages of $8.3 million. The US Department of Justice also requested permission to confiscate assets blocked in Cyprus. It is expected that the verdict will be announced on September 7.
In mid-February, the jury acknowledged Klyushin is guilty of criminal conspiracy, securities fraud and wire fraud. He did not admit guilt.
Klyushin is the owner and founder of the IT company M13, which develops media monitoring systems. He was detained on March 21, 2021 in Switzerland, where he came to spend a vacation with his family. Moscow sent requests for the extradition of Klyushin to Russia, but Switzerland rejected. On December 18 of the same year, Klyushin was extradited to the United States. The Russian is accused of conducting financial transactions using confidential information and being involved in hacker attacks on IBM, Tesla and other American companies.
At the end of December 2021, Klyushin’s lawyer Oliver Sirik told NBC that the Russian businessman had repeatedly rejected attempts by the US and British intelligence services to establish cooperation with him.
