Winter military operations threaten Ukraine’s energy system, which has barely recovered from last year’s Russian attacks, The Washington Post writes.
According to one Ukrainian soldier who operates the German Gepard anti-aircraft system located near Kyiv, there were many difficult nights last winter. He said that one day 20 Russian drones flew to one position at once.
“But this winter will be much worse,” he emphasized.
On October 10 last year, Russia began striking Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities. The country experienced widespread power outages, and its energy capacity was reduced by 51% compared to what it was before the conflict. Despite some recovery, many systems still do not operate at full capacity and remain vulnerable, the publication clarifies.
According to weather forecasters, winter this year in Ukraine may be colder than last year. In addition, it is unknown how many missiles the Russian Federation was able to produce during this time.
