Israel reported shelling from Syrian positions and retaliatory strike

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced an artillery strike on Syrian territory in response to rockets launched from there.
The defense ministry did not name the number of missiles launched, noting that some of them reached Israeli territory and fell in open areas.
“IDF forces responded with artillery and mortar fire at the source of the launches in Syrian territory,” the army said in a statement in X.
On the morning of October 7, the Palestinian group Hamas began military operations against Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, striking hundreds of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. Among the dead are four Russian citizens, the Russian Embassy in Tel Aviv reported earlier. On the evening of October 9, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported 687 deaths in the Gaza Strip, including 140 children. About 3,800 people were injured.
