The US Nova-C landing station sent to the Moon went into “sleep mode”
The American module Nova-C (Odyssey), which landed on the surface of the Earth’s natural satellite last week, has stopped working. The transition to “sleep mode,” as informed by the company that developed the device, Intuitive Machines, occurred due to the consumption of electricity and the onset of the lunar night.
Meanwhile, two weeks after the onset of the lunar day, an attempt will be made to resuscitate the device. It will be successful if the on-board equipment can withstand extremely low temperatures, and solar panels can power it.
The device landed last Thursday in the area of the Malapert A crater. This is 300 km from the South Pole of the Earth’s natural satellite. The landing was abnormal due to the failure of a number of on-board systems, and the device broke one of the supports. The module landed on the moon, turning over on its side at an angle of 30 degrees from the surface. Nevertheless, the Odyssey was able to work in this position for over six days. A large amount of data was collected with a total volume of about 350 megabytes, which were transmitted to Earth.
