Austin: US will begin negotiations to replace coalition military presence in Iraq
The United States intends to negotiate to replace the coalition military presence in Iraq with bilateral cooperation. Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin announced this.
“The United States and the government of Iraq will begin meetings of the High Military Commission working group in the coming days,” the US defense chief said.
At the same time, Austin did not specify whether he was talking about withdrawing or reducing the military contingent of the American army in Iraq, numbering 2.5 thousand people. He emphasized that the parties would have to discuss the “most effective evolution” of the international military coalition created under the leadership of Washington to fight ISIS (a terrorist organization banned in Russia).
