US Ambassador to the Russian Federation Lynn Tracy received consular access and met with American journalist Evan Gershkovich in the pre-trial detention center.
The Wall Street Journal, for which Gershkovich is a journalist, writes that on Monday the diplomat was granted access to the prisoner. The material notes that this is the third visit of the US Ambassador.
On March 30, Gershkovich was detained in Yekaterinburg by the Russian FSB on suspicion of spying for the US government. According to the Russian intelligence service, the American collected information constituting a state secret about the activities of one of the enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex.
The Lefortovo Court of Moscow at the end of March arrested the journalist for two months. At the end of May, the same court extended the term of arrest until 30 August.
