The US Department of Defense will provide another package of military assistance to Ukraine, including GLSDB missiles capable of flying about 150 km, Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder said.
“The Department of Defense today announced a significant new military aid package for Ukraine,” Ryder said (quote according to TASS). According to him, the package consists of two parts: assistance in the amount of $425 million will be allocated from the Pentagon’s stockpiles, another $1.75 billion will go to purchase weapons from suppliers.
The package will include the following types of weapons: air defense systems, infantry fighting vehicles, ammunition for Javelin anti-tank missile systems, “conventional and longer-range missiles” for HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, and GLSDB missiles.
The latest package of military aid to Ukraine was announced on 22 January. It included 59 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, 590 missiles for their TOW anti-tank missile systems and 295,000 25 mm ammunition. The tranche also included eight M1097 Avenger surface-to-air missile systems (SAMs), 90 Stryker armored vehicles, additional ammunition for NASAMS and HIMARS, and 53 armored vehicles with enhanced mine protection of the MRAP class.
The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized Western financial and military assistance to Ukraine. The presidential press secretary pointed out that the supply of weapons would not be able to influence the course of the special operation and Russia’s achievement of its goals.
