State Department spokesman asked Moscow to clarify the conditions for the resumption of the grain deal
The head of the State Department’s sanctions office, James O’Brien, told reporters at a briefing covering a possible resumption of the grain deal that Russia first of all “needs to clarify what it is asking for.”
According to O’Brien, Russia has put forward a number of different requirements that relate to the fact that Russian institutions do not receive services from the private sector.
He added that the US has expressed willingness to help with this issue, but does not yet understand what Russia will consider a success.
The official noted that Russia last year exported 61.8 million tons of grain, which is 10-15% higher than years earlier. In this regard, he stated that the Russian export process was working and called the Russian complaints “minor claims against the system.”
Earlier in Russia, it was stated that the grain deal does not work in terms of reconnecting Rosselkhozbank to SWIFT, as well as resuming supplies of Russian agricultural machinery, spare parts and fertilizers. Russia also demanded the restoration of the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline.
