The United Nations opposes the use of anti-personnel mines. This statement was made on Tuesday, November 14, at the office of the UN Secretary General.
The world organization commented on reports of violations by Ukraine of the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits anti-personnel mines.
As the official representative of the UN chief Stephane Dujarric said, “we oppose the use of anti-personnel mines anywhere.”
This comment was given following a statement by Mark Hizney, a member of the UN Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), that the Ukrainian side during the fighting in Izium, Kharkov region, violated the Ottawa Convention, which implies a ban on the use of anti-personnel mines.
At the same time, the Russian side has repeatedly pointed out to the world community the war crimes of the Kyiv regime, including the use of prohibited weapons. On November 4, the mayor of Donetsk Alexey Kulemzin announced about the detection of anti-personnel mines in the Kirovsky district of the city. In Donetsk, there were cases of death due to explosions of such ammunition.
