Former US Secretary of State and ex-CIA chief Mike Pompeo will join the board of directors of the Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar. The company announced this on social networks.
“Former US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo will become an independent non-executive director of the board of directors of Kyivstar,” the statement says.
The company explained that the ex-Secretary of State will join the board as a partner in the recently created investment company Impact Investments in the United States.
“I am proud to join VEON and Kyivstar in their extraordinary service to the people of Ukraine, providing much-needed communications and digital services,” Pompeo himself said in the message.
Mike Pompeo served as head of the US CIA in 2017-2018. In the spring of 2018, then-President Donald Trump was nominated to the post of Secretary of State and served in this position until January 2021.
