The Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo hockey players continue to fight for victory in the playoffs of the WHL Cup. The team from Nizhny Novgorod shows excellent results during the 2023-2024 season, which allowed it to take a high place in the regular season. In the first part of the season, the Torpedo women’s team took 2nd place, behind only the reigning champions from Ufa, who were very difficult to beat in the distance. In the first round of the playoffs, Torpedo met with the 7.62 team and defeated their rivals from the Moscow region, securing access to the semifinals.
In the semi-final series, the Nizhny Novgorod hockey players will face a stronger and more difficult opponent. The Torpedo women’s team will compete with opponents representing Biryusa from Krasnoyarsk to reach the finals. At the end of the regular season, Biryusa took 3rd place in the WHL standings, scoring 90 points in 42 matches. The club from Nizhny Novgorod was 7 points ahead of Biryusa, but lost once in the head-to-head match, losing with a crushing score of 6:1.
The start of the semi-final series of the WHL playoffs between Torpedo and Biryusa is scheduled for March 20. The two opening matches of the series will take place in Nizhny Novgorod.
