Serbian tennis player and world number one Novak Djokovic unexpectedly lost to world number 123 Italian Luca Nardi in the third round of the tournament in Indian Wells in the USA. The game lasted 2 hours 20 minutes and ended with the score 4:6, 6:3, 3:6.

ATP No. 123 Luque Nardi entered the tournament’s main draw as a lucky loser and is now the lowest-ranked player to defeat Novak Djokovic at an ATP Masters 1000 or Grand Slam event.

“I don’t think anyone knew me before this evening. I hope the audience enjoyed the game. I’m very pleased with her,” Nardi said after the victory (quote from the site ATP). In turn, Djokovic called Nardi “a very talented player who, as a lucky loser, has nothing to lose.”

In the next round, Nardi will fight with American tennis player Tommy Paul. Novak Djokovic became a five-time Masters winner in Indian Wells. The last time he won the tournament was in 2016.
