The torch relay of the 2nd Winter International Sports Games “Children of Asia” was carried across Yakutsk

On Sunday, the torch relay of the II Winter International Sports Games “Children of Asia”, lit on the Lena Pillars the day before, was held in the capital of the republic, the press service of the AGiP RS (Y) reports.

Fire in a capsule to the monument to Peter Beketov on the city embankment was brought on horseback by riders, keepers of the fire – famous athletes of Kuzbass Nikita Veselov, Ilya Katyshev, Denis Brit and Kamoliddin Turakulov. The group of torchbearers, who carried the capsule with fire further, was led by the champion of the Olympic Games in freestyle wrestling Pavel Pinigin. It also included well-known sports figures and medalists from past Children of Asia games.

Starting at the monument to Beketov, the torchbearers ran with fire along Kirov Street and finished at the Elley Bootur Ice Palace. The length of the distance was 2.1 km. After that, the capsule with fire was handed over to the representatives of the Kemerovo region – the hostess of the winter ISI “Children of Asia” in 2023.

The participants of the relay race were greeted by the head of Yakutsk Evgeny Grigoriev, the president of the International Games Committee “Children of Asia” Vladimir Maksimov, the deputy director general of the Russian Olympic Committee Igor Stepanov, the Olympic champion in biathlon Anna Bogaliy.

Recall that the II Winter International Sports Games “Children of Asia” will be held in the Kemerovo region from February 23 to March 5. The fire of the games will be carried through all the municipalities of Kuzbass hosting the games, it will end its journey at the opening ceremony of the games at the ice palace “Kuzbass Arena” in the capital of the region, the city of Kemerovo.

Games competitions in ten sports will be held in Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk, Mezhdurechensk and the Tashtagol region. Young athletes from 13 foreign countries will take part in the competition, including for the first time from Belarus.
