The Times: Billionaire Friedman suffered humiliation due to searches in London

Businessman Mikhail Fridman told The Times that the British National Crime Agency (NCA), which dropped the case against him, must compensate him for the illegal entry into his home, pay legal costs and return the seized cash. The search at Friedman’s mansion in London took place on December 22, 2022. The billionaire said he was shocked by the screams, wailing sirens and dozens of masked police officers who burst into his home. British lawyers declared the search illegal.
Previously, NCA officers claimed that during the search, Friedman allegedly jumped out of the window and tried to escape. However, the billionaire’s defense cited surveillance footage that showed him “slowly approaching officers with his hands up.” The NSA said that the sanctions evasion case against Friedman was dropped, but Friedman himself noted that he does not rule out the possibility of new charges against him if law enforcement agencies want to “put him in his place.”
In 2022, Mikhail Fridman was included in the sanctions list of 27 countries of the European Union, Great Britain, Canada and other states. In this regard, he remained in London. In December of the same year, Fridman filed a lawsuit with the European Court to appeal his inclusion in the sanctions lists.
