The Supreme Court ruled that a foreign passport is a legitimate document

Earlier, lower courts doubted this

The Supreme Court of Russia had to consider a foreign passport as a document confirming the identity of a citizen of the Russian Federation. Recently, the highest court made a corresponding decision.

As MK found out, studying the decision of the Supreme Court, a resident of the Sverdlovsk region was denied opening an account and issuing a bank card. Bank clerks referred to the fact that the citizen presented his international passport as an identity document.

The court of first instance, to which the Yekaterinburg resident appealed, supported the man. But only partly: he obliged the bank to issue the card. However, they were not required to open a bank account (by the way, one of the largest in Russia). The appeal and cassation instances also canceled the obligation to issue the card.

The Supreme Court did not agree with the decisions of its colleagues. They were canceled, and the case was sent to the Leninsky District Court of Nizhny Tagil.
