The Supreme Court of Russia rejected the claim of oppositionist Alexei Navalny to abolish the rule that allows the colony administration to limit the time for eating. According to his complaint, the internal regulations include the controversial wording “up to 30 minutes” for breakfast and dinner.
“Thanks to her, I was given a limit of 10 minutes for breakfast and 15 minutes for dinner. We tried to appeal these norms in a local court. We were told that the administration could set 10 minutes, 2 minutes, or 1 minute, based on the wording. What is the most popular product in the stall? That’s right – “Doshirak”. I would like to be able to eat it without established restrictions,” the Russian Agency for Legal and Judicial Information quotes Alexei Navalny as saying (RAPSI).
Representatives of the Ministry of Justice, who acted as defendants, reported that the current wording was a “surprise” for them. They added that the food rules in the colonies were established in accordance with the order of the Federal Penitentiary Service, which does not provide for any time restrictions. The convicted person, as the defendants said, can challenge the violations in court. Judge Oleg Nefedov dismissed the claim.
