The Supreme Court of Russia rejected the claim of the prisoner, who asked to oblige the colony administration to give him a sports ball. Thus, the Supreme Court canceled the decision of the first, appeal and cassation instances.
A man serving a sentence in a correctional colony in the Khabarovsk Territory in the summer of 2021 went to court, saying that he did not receive the ball that was sent to him in a personal package. The district court of Khabarovsk ruled that a sports ball was not included in the list of items that prisoners are prohibited from carrying.
This decision was upheld by the appellate and cassation instances. The administration of the colony filed a complaint with the Supreme Court. In the ruling, which RAPSIstates that, under the new rules from 2022, it is forbidden to receive sports equipment in correctional facilities.
