From 2023, the subject “Fundamentals of the spiritual and moral culture of the peoples of Russia” will be introduced in Russian schools. It will be held for grades 5-9, reports TASS with reference to the press release of the Ministry of Education.
The new subject will become a “semantic continuation” of the course “Fundamentals of Religious Cultures and Secular Ethics”, which is studied in the 4th grade. The subject will be introduced gradually, starting from the 5th grade, the Ministry of Education promised. They argue that teaching will be aimed at the “development of the personality” of students, as well as their “initiation to Russian traditional spiritual and moral values, rules and norms of behavior in society.”
This academic year, the Ministry of Education introduces the patriotic lesson “Conversations about the important” into the school curriculum. The first session will take place on September 12th. It follows from the methodological materials that teachers should lead third-graders to the idea that “the happiness of the Motherland is more precious than life” and “it’s not scary to die for the Motherland”, fifth-graders should be persuaded that military assistance from the West “increases the number of victims of the special operation” in Ukraine.
