The High-Precision Systems Holding (part of Rostec) has completed the development of the Ptitselov anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) on the chassis of an airborne combat vehicle (BMD-4M). It is intended for the airborne troops of Russia – it can be parachuted from military transport aircraft.
The representative of Rostec announced the completion of the development “RIA News”. The interlocutor of the state agency noted that earlier, on the basis of the BMP-3, a short-range air defense system with a Sosna combat module was created. He is currently being tested. “Ptitselov” – a similar machine, but based on the BMD-4M.
The main difference between the “Ptitselov” is the possibility of landing. The Sosna combat module is equipped with two launchers for 12 Sosna-R missiles. Projectiles can hit air targets at ranges up to 10 km and altitudes up to 5 km. A guided missile develops a speed of up to 900 m/s, aims at a target in a laser beam, which accompanies the target from the SAM combat module.
