“The stench is utter”: a labor veteran spent years sleeping on the floor and drowning in feces

In Krasnoyarsk, an 83-year-old pensioner was released from unsanitary captivity. The woman spent many years on a bare floor, surrounded by garbage, waste and five dogs. An adult son lived with her in the same living space. Unlike his mother, the man slept on the bed and did not want to change the current state of affairs.

On January 29, a group of representatives of the police, social services, management company and city administration gathered near a room in the former dormitory of a tire factory. The specialists opened the powerful iron door. According to neighbors, an elderly woman in extremely neglected condition has been lying behind this shelter for many years. Her son runs the premises. He doesn’t let anyone see his mother. Several times social services and an ambulance tried to examine the pensioner, but the man did not refer to the right of private property and did not allow her to enter the door.

“The stench from the room is incredible, cockroaches are running out, dogs are howling,” complains a neighbor in a former hostel. – We tried to talk to our son, but he scurried away and immediately closed the door. We caught a glimpse that it was dirty and completely unsanitary. One can only guess what happened to Galina.

The over-aged son does not work anywhere. He takes the mother’s pension and its veteran’s supplement for himself. This is what he lives on.

“Once a month he takes her out to wash,” says the neighbor down the hall. “He’ll put a stool in the bathroom, she’ll splash around there herself, and then he’ll take her to get her pension.” Everything seems to be fine.

The hero of the day appeared while opening the door. With an aggressive cry, the man tried to prevent the services from entering the room, usually hiding behind the right of private property, but the police had a message that a person lived in the room whose life and health was in danger. The door still opened.

The condition of the room exceeded the description of the neighbors. Rotten parquet flooring, stinking puddles, urine, feces, leftover food, garbage that hasn’t been picked up for years. There was a closet littered with junk against one wall, and my son’s bed against the other. The woman was lying nearby on the bare floor, covered with an old jacket. Dogs, of which there were five in the room, walked freely along it.

When people appeared in the room, the woman said hello and asked her son for clothes. The pensioner said that her name is Galina Ignatievna, she is 83 years old. She worked for many years at a tire factory, from which she received this housing. We were waiting for an apartment, but the company was closed. She worked as a janitor, then retired. For honest and valiant work she received the title of veteran. She did not complain about her health, although, apparently, she was in dire need of medical attention.

“She lay on the concrete floor in a puddle of urine for many years.” Well, what kind of health can she have? – asked the neighbor, insisting on urgent hospitalization of the pensioner. “The son probably decided that his mother hadn’t even earned enough to pay for a bed in her entire life.”

When his son asked why his mother slept on the floor and he slept on the bed, the man replied that there was nowhere to put a second bed in the room. The room is really small – only 12 meters. But nevertheless, there was room for five dogs…

Galina Ignatievna agreed to medical care and asked to be sent to a boarding school. There were no clean warm clothes in the house. The woman had to be transported in blankets provided by neighbors.

Two days after Galina Ignatievna moved, MK spoke with the staff of the Krasnoyarsk boarding home for the elderly.

“The woman was brought in in terrible sanitary condition,” they said at the boarding school. – The skin was corroded, it looked neglected. But doctors have not yet found any serious health problems, although examinations are still ongoing. Galina Ignatievna is still in quarantine. She talks well and walks independently. Friendly with everyone. Constantly asks about his dogs. We are sure that she will make friends with other boarding school residents if she decides to stay with us. She eats with gusto, but it cannot be said that she was brought in in an emaciated state. She was given all new clothes. She likes it here.

As for the smelly room, the management company employees cleaned it up. They removed the dirt and carried out disinfestation. The owner did not want to part with his dogs. Animal rights activists will soon begin assessing their health and living conditions.
