First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education Yana Lantratova said “Izvestia”that from January 1, the State Duma will not pay deputies’ expenses for gasoline if they do not switch to domestically produced cars. According to her, deputies are given a choice: to replace their current cars with foreign cars recommended by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

“From January 1, the State Duma will not accept documents necessary for reimbursement of expenses for motor transport services for cars of other brands. Now they provide me with a Toyota Camry in the Chelyabinsk region, but soon it will be replaced by another car. The region has not yet specified which one,” said Ms. Lantratova. She also said that from 2024, at the request of regional authorities, deputies must switch to Lada, UAZ, Aurus, Evolute, Moskvich, Haval cars.

Yesterday, December 19, “Vedomosti” citing sources, they reported that regional executive authorities received a letter from the head of the State Duma apparatus, Igor Diveykin. In it, he, referring to the decision of State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, proposes to transfer all deputies to cars of domestic manufacturers from January 1, 2024.

On September 18, Mr. Volodin stated that such a measure would “help the development of the Russian automobile industry” and “budget funds will remain in the country.” Prior to this, in August, President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with the head of AvtoVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, said that “all this bureaucracy” should strive to develop domestic brands. Following the meeting, he instructed the government to transfer officials to domestic cars.
