Recently, the governor of the Orenburg region, Denis Pasler, proposed euthanizing stray and domestic dogs that show aggression. First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vladimir Burmatov in communication with “Gazeta.Ru” criticized the initiative, calling it a “populist initiative” and “an imitation of violent activity.”
“Just an imitation of violent activity is going on. What prevented you from working before? This is not the first tragedy, it is not the first time the prosecutor’s office has drawn attention to this, including through official instructions,” Burmatov said.
The deputy urged the governor to correct the situation itself, build shelters and start trapping. Burmatov also noted that he went to the website of the Investigative Committee, where he discovered that in the Orenburg region there was a “non-target” for road repairs, suggesting that part of the funds be sent to build shelters so that they would not go to luxury cars for the regional administration.
The parliamentarian also noted that a decision of the State Duma is not needed to resolve such situations. To do this, it is enough to independently resolve the issue of stray dogs and adopt acts to protect the life and health of citizens from animal attacks.
