The State Duma of the Russian Federation declared September 3 the Day of victory over militaristic Japan
The State Duma passed a law that changes the name of the Day of the end of World War II. According to the deputies, the adoption of this law is due to the fact that after the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, Japan, together with Western countries, launched an unprecedented unfriendly campaign against Russia, including the imposition of sanctions.
Legislators believe that it is important to indicate in the name “militarist Japan”, which in 1945 sought to destroy the Soviet Union. But at the same time, the decision is not directed against Japanese civilians who also suffered from the war.
Amendments are being made to the law “On the days of military glory and memorable dates in Russia.” Andrei Kartapolov, head of the State Duma Defense Committee, believes that Japan’s policy in the 20-40s of the last century was aggressive, aimed at destroying the Soviet Union, and Victory Day over militaristic Japan will remind you of the consequences of violating international law.
