Lavrov commented on NATO’s position on freezing the conflict in Ukraine

“If NATO, through the mouth of Stoltenberg, once again declares that they are against freezing, as they say, the conflict in Ukraine, then they want to fight. Well, let them fight, we are ready for this, we have long understood the goals of NATO in the situation around Ukraine, which have been formed for many years,” he said.
At the same time, some Western politicians and experts are “sobering up”, understanding the true reasons for what is happening, the minister said. At the same time, Lavrov considers the statements of Western countries that without Kiev pumping up the conflict in Ukraine would have ended long ago as a de facto recognition that they are “a direct participant in the hybrid, and even hot war declared against Russia.”
June 19 Stoltenberg at a press conference after a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz declaredthat NATO opposes freezing the conflict in Ukraine and peace agreements on Russia’s terms. The alliance, he said, wants an end to the active phase of hostilities, but, he said, “a just peace cannot mean freezing the conflict and accepting a deal dictated by Russia.”
Earlier today, the press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, said that the head of state is open to negotiations, but Kyiv’s position does not allow talking about “any stable ground for such eventual negotiations.”
Since the beginning of the military special operation in Ukraine, the parties have held negotiations several times. The first three face-to-face meetings took place in Belarus in February-March last year, and the fourth round of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue was held on March 29 in Istanbul. Later, the process was frozen, since Kyiv withdrew from it.
