The State Duma proposed to increase fines for data leakage to 1 billion rubles, RIA Novosti reports.
As reported, Boris Chernyshov, Vice Speaker of the State Duma from the Liberal Democratic Party, presented such an initiative to the Ministry of Digital Development. In a commentary to RIA Novosti, he noted that he had already sent the corresponding document to the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev.
Chernyshov said that it is now necessary to tighten the responsibility for companies that work with personal data of Russian citizens.
“Administrative liability for a company that allowed such a leak of information should increase up to 1 billion rubles,” he said, emphasizing that such fines are associated with the possibility of using “leaked” personal data of Russians by attackers.
Chernyshov also said that there are cases where such data is sold or distributed in closed communities.
“Business should be responsible even for the very fact of a leak – this is a situation in which our citizens suffer, the state must protect them,” he said.
At the same time, the politician admitted that it is worth considering the interests of business, so the upper limit of the fine should be reviewed.
