Tutors, telecommuting, homeschooling: how to graduate from school without going to class for months

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education Yana Lantratova proposes to create classrooms at hospitals and children’s medical centers so that children do not lag behind the school curriculum. For this purpose, develop educational courses in basic subjects and train teachers on them. “MK” remembered how similar training in hospitals happened before. And he asked the parents of children-artists and athletes about how they manage to skip large parts of the school curriculum painlessly for study.

With a letter about the creation of classes with computers and office equipment in children’s hospitals, Lantratova addressed Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova. The reason was the appeal of a volunteer organization with a request to help children who are on long-term treatment, to help in mastering the school curriculum.

“Every year, 200-250 thousand children are in the hospitals of Russian hospitals who need long-term treatment and rehabilitation, more than 21 days,” the deputy says. But it happens that they last more than one month. Lantratova added that orphans and children left without parental care also spend a long time, sometimes up to several months, in hospitals before being transferred to an orphanage. Therefore, in modern conditions, not just hospital classes with teachers are required, but also with computers, laptops, scanners, printers, etc.

Also, with the return of the “hospital school”, Lantratova talks about creating courses for teachers who will work in such classrooms. And he advocates for the involvement of volunteers, representatives of public organizations in training in hospitals.

– Yes, we used to study in hospitals, in sanatoriums, – says Elena Yarusova, a Muscovite. – For example, I am a disabled child with congenital joint injuries. I didn’t study for half a year or more in elementary school, then another 5th grade, almost all of it was in the hospital, with the Ilizarov apparatus. If we had not been taught there, we would have lagged behind about the program completely. Teachers in all the main subjects came to the hospital to us, they studied right in the ward. After all, there were bedridden children among us, and they came to their ward, several people were recruited, and the teacher. The program was the same as at school, a little lighter. The only thing is that we did not write tests and did not take exams, we took them at the place of residence. We also did additional classes – on weekends other teachers came and drew, sculpted, and played music with us.

By the way, in Soviet times, teachers were also provided to children-artists on the set. Now, under the new Law on Education, children who spend a lot of time outside of school for a good reason are entitled to IEP – an individual curriculum.

– In fact, some teachers meet halfway, and some “show integrity”, your shooting is your problem, – says Marina, mother of 14-year-old Sasha. – My daughter has been acting in films since the age of 6, she sometimes goes to the theater. We work closely with tutors. Of course, Sasha herself learns something on the set, but her efforts are not enough. We do not dare to leave for home schooling.

Another ever-touring audience is the circus sawdust children. A former balancing act gymnast, and now a coach, Evgeny says that at one time he changed 8 schools – before there was such an order that the child goes to school in the city where the circus comes. Of course, it was hard every time to adapt not only to the new team, but also to the program – somewhere the material lags behind, somewhere it advances. But it also happened that, together with his parents, he went on an annual tour of Europe. As a result, I passed the last two classes of the school as an external student.

– Therefore, now circus either do not carry children with them, or they teach in an online school, – says Evgeny. – Tourists cannot adapt differently now, a very difficult program at school.

Another large category of children who often miss classes are athletes. But if bases with boarding schools are equipped in team events or national teams, then “individuals” have to get out of everything.

– Yes, we were often absent from school for 3 weeks, a month or more, – says Irina, mother of 13-year-old chess player Lyova. – Either competitions in some city, then training. But there is a sense – Leva has an adult youth category from the age of 8, he is already the winner of tournaments. In Moscow, he studied at the lyceum until the 5th grade, and everyone there was sympathetic, since he studied well. But still there were “tails” that had to be finished. During the lockdown, the whole family went to a remote place and “served” it in the south. And so during this time the idea of ​​remote learning was imbued with, we realized that this is the best thing for us and Leva. In order to avoid endless reports, we have chosen home education with the participation of a distance format in individual subjects.
