The State Duma proposed introducing a tax on childlessness – Kommersant

A member of the State Duma Committee on Budget and Taxes, Evgeny Fedorov, believes that introducing a tax on childlessness in Russia, as was the case in the USSR, is a “not bad” idea. In his opinion, this is one of the possible solutions to the demographic problem in Russia.

“It would be nice to introduce a tax on childlessness like in the Soviet Union. It is necessary to stimulate the birth of children, including through maternal capital. If there is not enough money for these projects, a tax must be introduced. This is not a punishment – this is a way to solve the problem,” said United Russia deputy Evgeny Fedorov.

Over the past six months, a number of Russian officials have spoken out about problems with demographics in Russia. In Mordovia and the Tver region, administrative liability was introduced for “inducement” to abortion. Such a law could be adopted by the authorities of the Tambov region and Tatarstan.

For the second year in a row, Patriarch Kirill has proposed banning abortions in private clinics throughout Russia. According to the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, the number of abortions “still remains high.” Although, according to statistics from the Ministry of Health, over the past ten years the number of abortions has more than halved.

Last week, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Anna Kuznetsova statedthat work on removing abortion services from private clinics is already underway at the legislative level. At the same time, the speaker of the Federation Council said today that the authorities will not ban abortions and that no bans will solve the problem of abortions.
