The State Duma introduced amendments to raise the age for receiving child benefits

The Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg introduced a bill to the State Duma proposing to extend the opportunity to receive a monthly benefit in connection with the birth and upbringing of a child until the child reaches the age of 18.

Current regulations stipulate the payment of such benefits until the child reaches the age of 17 years. However, as the authors of the legislative initiative pointed out, the Family Code of the Russian Federation recognizes a child as a person who has not reached the age of 18 years (the age of majority).

In this regard, it is proposed to bring the norms of federal legislation on the payment of child benefits in accordance with the Family Code.

Earlier, the Minister of Labor and Social Development of the Russian Federation, Anton Kotyakov, presented a report to the head of state, Vladimir Putin, according to which almost 40% of Russian citizens receive assistance from the state in one form or another. The Russian leader was assured that the increase in payments that happened in 2024 is not an election story: an increase in state support for citizens is provided for in the three-year budget.

Meanwhile, the Government of the Russian Federation adopted clarifications to the rules according to which the families of volunteers participating in the special operation are assigned unified child benefit. They no longer have to worry that lump sum payments for damage to health or life caused by combat will affect their ability to receive monthly child benefits.
