Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Industry and Trade Alexander Spiridonov in a conversation with “Lentoy.ru” criticized the idea of selling alcoholic beverages online. According to him, as a result of the transition of a significant part of sales to the Internet, the profits of regular stores will decrease, which may cause an increase in prices for “basic socially significant products.”
The parliamentarian believes that the idea of online alcohol sales is “disastrous” for several reasons. In particular, the deputy pointed out that this will increase the availability of alcohol, and, as a result, its consumption. In addition, according to Spiridonov, the amount of surrogate alcohol sold on “fly-by-night sites” will increase. He also noted that control over the sale of alcohol to minors will become more complicated and the ability to control sales at night will disappear.
In addition, the deputy drew attention to the negative demographic situation, due to which such initiatives are “extremely harmful.” Spiridonov added that this position was supported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Health, and he plans to stand on this together with his colleagues in the State Duma.
